After months of buzz, Babygirl is finally hitting cinemas.

Well, it’s out in the US, but the UK will have to wait until January 10, although there are some preview screenings.

Before its release, the film has already sparked plenty of discussion, thanks to its highly steamy content and revelations from its lead star.

Nicole Kidman stars in the movie as a high-powered CEO who risks both her career and family when she begins a torrid affair with the company’s new intern, played by Harris Dickinson, who is much younger than her.

The 57-year-old actress recently opened up about the filming process, revealing that at times, she had to stop because she was having “too many orgasms.” In a conversation with Zendaya, she also shared that some of the intimate scenes were unscripted.

During Variety’s Actors on Actors interview, the two stars discussed Babygirl, and Kidman was asked, “How much was rehearsed and how much was you guys just finding it?”

The Aussie star responded, saying it was “both.” She explained that there were “very structured” moments, but at other times, she and Dickinson didn’t always know how things would unfold.

“It would change every time,” Kidman admitted, saying she loved the “spontaneity” of it all.

The film delves into power dynamics in relationships, exploring the BDSM-heavy fling between the characters. Kidman added that “listening is probably the most important part of acting,” stressing how plans often don’t help much in those moments.

“You can come in with this plan, but the plan is not going to help you really,” she said, emphasizing the importance of “listening and responding” to create something special.

While Babygirl isn’t the first time Kidman has been involved in intimate scenes, it certainly seems to take her erotic roles to a new level.

In fact, the opening scenes see her having an orgasm while with her husband, Jacob, played by Antonio Banderas.

Kidman describes the film as “very releasing” and addresses the response from viewers. “I hope it is,” she said to The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve had some people say it’s the most disturbing film they’ve ever seen, which I’m like, ‘Oh no, I’m so sorry.’”

However, she believes it shines a light on an often-overlooked aspect, adding, “A lot of times women are discarded at a certain period of their career as a sexual being. So it was really beautiful to be seen in this way.”

The actress elaborated on her character, stating: “My character has reached a stage where she’s got all this power, but she’s not sure who she is, what she wants, what she desires, even though she seems to have it all. And I think that’s really relatable.”

Babygirl was released in UK cinemas on January 10.
